What we mean by consent-based

CMO Editorial5 min read

The word "consent" gets used a lot in this industry and almost never seriously. Most apps mean: you clicked the terms and now we can do whatever we want. That is not what we mean.

On CMO, every point of contact between two members requires both members to actively opt in. Not passively. Not by default. Actively.

The nearby-member ping is off unless you turn it on. Your profile is invisible unless both sides accept the mutual match. Your location is never shown as a coordinate — it's shown as "in this venue, right now, if you want to be." Even that visibility expires when you leave.

This is slower to build. It is also the only way to make a real-world meeting network that people trust enough to actually show up to. Which is the whole point.
